This LPMHC (LPMHC) position is assigned as a LPMHC Supervisor/Team Leader for the Mental Health Clinic at the Floyd K. Lindstrom Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) located in Colorado Springs. CO. within the VA Eastern Colorado Health care System (ECHCS). The incumbent formulates and directs the operations for the following mental health program areas in conjunct ion with the specialty program managers in ECHCS:
One Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) Team. The incumbent works with his/her BHIP Team to provide services for patients and their families in accordance with the mission of ECHCS by establishing priori ties for work to be performed and developing available staff resources accordingly. The Supervisory LPMHC/Team leader provides administrative coordination and clinical leadership to a multi-disciplinary treatment team in a complex, very large CBOC. She/he participates as both the administrative and clinical lead as well as a clinical member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team. As a clinical member of the team, the incumbent conducts evidence based psychosocial treatment and psychological assessment in the care of eligible veterans and their family members. Veteran's healthcare and psychosocial problems are complex and require a high degree of clinical oversight and creative problem solving. The LPMHC /Team Leader must be licensed at the Advanced Practice Level and must be able to provide supervision for subordinate LPMHC staff to qualify for licensure. As a Supervisory LPMHC, the LPMHC assists in planning, establishing, and implementing policies and procedures:
developing individual or group goals and objectives as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, coordinating and observing the multi-disciplinary staff of their assigned program. The incumbent will serve as a member of the Southern CBOC Section leadership team. The incumbent will assure multi-disciplinary staff under her/his supervision are aware of and adhere to all current directives and handbooks of the Veterans Healthcare Administration, meet current Joint Commission standards, CARF Standards, State licensure standards, and VA-OIG oversight requirements. The incumbent will conduct ongoing intensive reviews and appraisals to ensure the accomplishments of objectives and adherence to standards set by governing bodies. Responsibilities include development of short and long range goals and plans; development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure that plans are carried out and goals are met; administrative and programmatic resource management; and monitoring outcomes using a data-driven assurance process. Decisions made affect staff and other resources associated with the programs managed and are made exercising very wide latitude and independent judgment. The program managed is a substantial component of Mental Health Service. The LPMHC demonstrates an ability to expand clinical knowledge in the profession, provide consultation and guidance to colleagues, role model effective LPMHC practice skills, teach or provide orientation to less experienced LPMHCs, develop innovations in practice interventions, and provide clinical supervision for LPMHC work licensure. The incumbent has the responsibility to provide leadership, guidance and supervision to the mental health clinic staff of his/her BHIP Team including social workers, psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, trainees of respective disciplines, and support staff members in the Mental Health Clinic. Hold a master's or doctoral degree in:
Clinical Mental Health Counseling; Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling; or a related field, from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Examples of related mental health counseling fields include but are not limited to Addiction Counseling; Community Counseling; Gerontology Counseling; Marital, Couple, and Family Counseling. CACREP defines the date when graduates are considered to have graduated from a CACREP accredited program. Additional information may be obtained from http:

Traditional Rehabilitation counseling programs that are accredited by CACREP do not meet the LPMHC qualification standards as Traditional Rehabilitation counseling differs from Clinical Rehabilitation counseling. Licensure:
Persons hired or reassigned to LPMHC positions in the GS-101 series in VHA must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice mental health counseling, which includes diagnosis and treatment English Language Proficiency:
LPMHCs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j. GS-12 Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor Supervisor:
Experience, Education, and Licensure. In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must have at least 1 year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the next lower grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to meeting the KSAs for GS-11 level, the candidate must demonstrate the KSAs below:
1. Ability to administratively supervise other providers and conduct meetings. 2. Ability to maintain a professional environment by following organizational policies, guidelines and safety standards. 3. Ability to establish and clearly communicate guidelines and performance expectations for staff. Reference:

The work requires some physical exertion such as prolonged periods of standing, bending, reaching, crouching, stooping, stretching and lifting moderately heavy items such as manuals and records boxes.
